If you’ve ever had the joy of owning an outdoor cat, you’re likely familiar with the “gifts” they deliver. And by “gifts,” I mean the unfortunate remains of what used to be a chipmunk or a bird. However, some cats prefer to share their spoils in a more dramatic fashion. Enter Mango the cat, who decided to bring his latest catch into the family home for everyone to admire.
This particular “catch”? A gigantic, very much alive rat.
Mango’s owner, Lisa Thompson, documented the entire ordeal in a video, aptly titled “I’m ready to burn my house down.” Once you witness the sheer size of that rat — and remember, it is 100% alive — you might just agree that arson seems like a viable option.
The footage is absolutely hilarious, as the family is in a frenzy over this enormous rodent running loose in their home (which is completely justified). Meanwhile, Mango is nonchalantly thinking, “This is my new favorite toy.” Lisa’s frantic calls of “Mango! Mango! MANGO!!!” are particularly entertaining. Anyone who owns a cat knows they pay zero attention to commands or pleas. So, when Lisa shouted “DO NOT GO TO THE KITCHEN” — Mango, of course, had no intention of listening.
Make sure your volume is up for the moment when Lisa exclaims, “OH MY GOD THE RAT IS STILL ALIVE!” And again when she realizes Mango has lost interest in his new “toy”: “OH MY GOD, THE CAT JUST IGNORED IT, WHAT THE HECK!”
Mango proudly carried the Mega Rat upstairs, only for the clever rodent to evade capture and dart around the nooks and crannies of the house. This went on for a staggering 36 HOURS.
In a follow-up post, Lisa (who openly admitted her family isn’t exactly skilled at dealing with pests) detailed their exhausting attempts to locate this elusive rat. “We blocked off the bedroom door. My son slept in my daughter’s room while my daughter and I shared a bed the first night,” she explained.
Wait, “the first night???” Oh dear! They even kept Mango in the room with the rat, hoping he would finally do his job. “After a night of no dead rat, I dashed to the hardware store for snap traps.” Not the most pleasant solution, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Another sleepless night and a Rat Zapper later, the saga finally came to an end. “When I woke up and saw a red light blinking on the Rat Zapper, I was relieved to find that Mr. R was back home to handle the situation,” she recounted. She left to play tennis, and upon her return, well, RIP Mega Rat. Good times!

In summary, the tale of Mango and the Mega Rat is a hilarious reminder of how unpredictable life with pets can be. From panic to relief, this family’s adventure with a live rat had them at the edge of their seats, and it all ended with a humorous twist.
