Today’s reminder: adorn your beautiful self with glitter and capture the moment!
Since welcoming my second child, I’ve gained 50 pounds. Yes, you heard that right—FIFTY. Yet, despite the number on the scale, I often feel incredibly wonderful. The exceptions? When I’m trying on clothes. If it were socially acceptable, I would be perfectly content to roam around in the nude. That’s why I’m so drawn to the stunning images of individuals draped in glitter.
The creative force behind the Positively Glittered initiative, Lana Brooks, shares, “We began as a group of women united by our passion for lingerie and body positivity. We never anticipated what would unfold.” The aim was simple: to celebrate our true selves by covering up in glitter, and we did just that.
Photographers Ava Thompson and Mia Carter joined forces to beautifully capture these moments. “The original inspiration was for the participants to shed their insecurities and reclaim their bodies, to stop caring about external opinions,” Thompson explains. “This project originated from their vision, and I’m thrilled to be part of it.”
Just look at these extraordinary bodies! The act of shedding clothing and adorning ourselves in glitter truly emphasizes the beauty found in all shapes and sizes.
As one post stated, “Day 12 on this account and we’ve already seen a post removed.” Is anyone really surprised? Women celebrating their own bodies often face scrutiny. It’s acceptable for nudity to sell cars or fragrances, but why is it controversial when we celebrate ourselves? The advertising industry hasn’t embraced every body type, so we see this double standard.
Over time, the project has evolved to focus on the diversity of women and the celebration of our unique stories. “Each participant brings her own narrative, which is crucial since media representation is often lacking,” Brooks elaborates. “Our upcoming glitter event will feature over 20 women of various shapes, sizes, and backgrounds, all eager to honor their bodies.”
Who would have thought that a naked glitter party was just what we needed in our lives? I certainly didn’t, but now I can’t help but want one!
