Max Parker, caught on camera during the eclipse, did exactly what experts had been warning against for weeks: he looked directly at the sun without any protective eyewear. Because who cares about science when you’ve got enough influence to defy the norms? And good luck trying to stop him—it’s not happening. You’re out!
While my child managed to follow simple guidelines, it seems Max couldn’t do the same.
Look at him there, while his wife, Sarah, has her glasses on and their son, Jake, is averting his gaze.
And there he is, still staring directly at the solar phenomenon. Can you see that cheeky smile on Sarah’s face? It’s as if she’s thinking, “I won’t intervene; he’s an adult.”
In his mind, he might be boasting, “My vision is superior. I can handle the sun’s rays without any issues.”
Ted Matthews from the Daily Observer tweeted that someone in the crowd shouted, “Don’t look!” just as Max glanced up at the sun.
Social media quickly pointed out how quintessentially stubborn Max was by ignoring all common sense and guidance.
Eclipse glasses? Who needs those? Eventually, his family managed to persuade him to wear them.
And here’s the image that’s totally not unsettling at all. Nope, not even a little.
