It’s that magical season once more! No, it’s not the holidays, nor is it Mother’s Day or even the much-anticipated Amazon Prime Day. It’s something even better: back to school time!
While summer offers a break from homework and strict schedules, it also comes with its unique challenges. For instance, the seemingly endless chorus of “I’m bored” echoing through your home every thirty minutes and the mystery of wet towels and soggy bathing suits strewn everywhere. By the time school rolls back around, many parents, especially the witty ones on Twitter, are ready to celebrate.
1. Acknowledge the difference.
Those of us in the northern states didn’t brag about keeping our kids in school until late June, did we? OK, maybe just a little.
2. Anxiety sets in.
Sending thoughts and prayers to everyone as we approach this hectic time.
3. Sweet relief.
Goodbye to screen time guilt, endless popsicle wrappers, and the dreaded “I’m bored!” Yes, tears of joy are definitely flowing.
4. Worth every penny.
I do a little happy dance with each pack of new socks and jeans I toss into my shopping cart at Target, knowing they’ll sprout holes before long.
5. Hidden treasure.
Remember that brand-new underwear you bought last year instead of tackling the laundry? Your little one kicked them under the bed, and now you get to rediscover them!
6. Almost there.
Not that we’re counting or anything. Just a calendar to mark off each day and a few alarms set on our phones—nothing too obsessive.
7. Reality check.
When my eldest started kindergarten, I shed tears for two weeks. Now that she’s heading into fifth grade, I’m ready to throw a party as soon as the bus departs!
8. Stock up the vodka.
Let’s keep the teachers in our thoughts. It’s going to be a wild ride!
9. Survival mode.
We made it through another summer with everyone alive—definitely a win in my book.
10. Joyful days ahead.
Yes, indeed! Cheers to back-to-school season, fellow parents!
