Art by Laura Belle

Artist Laura Belle is on a mission to redefine beauty standards by transforming women’s stretch marks into vibrant works of art. Based in Barcelona, she believes that every body is beautiful and deserves to be celebrated.

Instead of concealing the stretch marks of the women she photographs, Laura aims to showcase them in a stunning light. Through her unique approach, she paints these so-called “flaws” in rainbow hues, creating breathtaking images that have captivated audiences on Instagram.

“All bodies bear (more or less) marks, hairs, freckles, stretch marks, curves, lines, wounds, wrinkles … each is equally valid,” she expresses in her posts. “It’s time for us to embrace our bodies, as they are our means of interacting with the world. If we don’t appreciate the tools we use, we can hardly feel liberated.”

Laura shares that her own journey with stretch marks prompted her art. “For years, I despised my stretch marks and sought ways to eliminate them. Eventually, I realized that rejecting them meant rejecting myself,” she reflects. Her commitment to self-acceptance began a few years ago, evolving into a deep appreciation for every aspect of her body.

“To embrace these marks is to accept our roots, our histories, and ultimately, ourselves,” she notes. “Stretch marks are woven into our essence, representing our experiences, our stories, and who we are.”

Her artwork is not only visually striking but also resonates on a personal level. It evokes memories of my own transition into a postpartum body that I struggled to accept. For me, it was the emergence of scars, spider veins, and added weight that clouded my self-image. However, through my ongoing journey of self-love, I’ve learned that creating art from my own “imperfections” has helped me appreciate my body more. I’ve chosen to express this through tattoos—some that conceal the marks and others that celebrate them, all of which I now find beautiful.

Like Laura, I’ve shifted my perspective and made the choice to love my body—”Your body, your home, your choice.”
