Incorporating older siblings into a newborn photo shoot can be a challenging endeavor. When those siblings are young toddlers, keeping them still can be nearly impossible. Furthermore, their excitement for a new baby can lead to overly enthusiastic cuddles that may not translate well into the perfect photograph. However, with a bit of patience and the right timing, you can capture moments of pure magic, just like photographer Mia Thompson did.

Mia, who runs Studio Bliss Photography, is a proud mom of two sets of twins: Oliver and Lily, who are almost three years old, and newborn twins Ella and Ava, just two weeks old. Recently, Mia captured stunning images of her new daughters, and her older twins joined in for a delightful family portrait.

The identical twins, born on January 26th, appeared snuggled up with their ecstatic older siblings, who were clearly overjoyed to be included. Mia recalled that while she had a vision for the photo, her initial attempt didn’t go quite as planned. “Earlier in the day, I tried to have Oliver and Lily sit and hold the babies, but it was a total disaster. After giving them a little break, I brought them back into my studio and laid them down for the shot. It took just two minutes! I simply told them to ‘act silly,’ which made them burst into laughter,” she shared.

The second attempt was indeed a success, resulting in a heartwarming image that Mia will cherish forever. She also managed to capture several sweet moments of Ella and Ava on their own.

The sheer cuteness of the scene is almost overwhelming. Despite the challenges of photographing all four kids together, Mia noted that Oliver and Lily have been enamored with their baby sisters since before they were born. “They are incredibly gentle with Ella and Ava, love holding and feeding them, and can’t wait for the days when they can take them down slides or on tractor rides,” Mia explained.

Regarding their unexpected double set of twins, Mia described the experience as astonishing. “Oliver and Lily being twins wasn’t too surprising due to science and odds, but identical twins are a whole different ballgame. My partner Jess and I were astonished throughout Jess’s entire pregnancy and continue to be. We never imagined having four children under the age of three!”

Mia is already planning more photo sessions with all four kids as they grow. “I’m thrilled with that one photo of them together as newborns, but I can’t wait to capture more moments of them as they develop into a family unit,” she remarked. Mia is delighted that their story resonates with others, especially in providing hope for LGBTQ+ couples looking to conceive.
