Dear Kiddo,

Tomorrow marks your first day of second grade — how exciting! I know you might not be thrilled about going back to school. You’d likely prefer playing baseball or soccer with the kids next door, sorting your football cards, or diving into the pool for yet another splash. You’d rather be immersed in superhero movies or exploring the backyard for bugs and cool rocks. Summer has been filled with adventure, and I completely understand why you want it to last a little longer.

But time moves forward, and as much as I cherish the memories of this magical summer, it’s time for school to begin again. Before we dive into this new chapter, I want to share a few important insights with you that you should always keep in mind.

1. You Are Surrounded by Superheroes

First and foremost, superheroes aren’t just a part of the stories you read or the games you play. They are all around us! Your teacher is a superhero in disguise, armed with patience and a treasure trove of lessons about math, science, reading, and kindness. Remember, a true superhero is anyone who makes a positive impact in someone else’s life. So, be kind, pay attention, and support your teachers in their important work. When you do, you too become a superhero, helping to empower those around you.

2. Breathe Through Challenges

The second insight is this: when challenges arise — and they will — taking a moment to breathe deeply can help you navigate through them. You have a big heart, and you feel things deeply, just like me. Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, whether it’s a difficult math problem or navigating friendships. In those moments, remember to take deep breaths and know that you are never truly alone. Your dad and I are always by your side, cheering you on. Even if it feels like you’re isolated, our love and support are with you always, tucked away in your heart. Trust yourself, take those breaths, and listen to what your heart tells you.

3. You Are the Magic

And now for the most essential insight: the magic you felt this summer doesn’t disappear — it lives within you. You are the magic! Remember what we always say: be the best version of yourself. It’s not about trying to be someone else; it’s about embracing the unique person you are. When you tap into that magic, you’ll inspire others to do the same. School is about more than just academics; it’s about growth, learning, and spreading that magic around you.

So, don’t worry — second grade will be fantastic! You’ll discover new things and meet more superheroes along the way. Be kind, listen well, and share your magic with everyone you meet. And when the day ends, come home and share your adventures with me. I can’t wait to hear all about it because not a moment passes when I’m not thinking of you, loving you, and cheering you on.

xoxo,
Mom
