New Year’s Aspirations Every Parent Envisions for Their Child

As we dive deeper into the New Year, many of us find ourselves reflecting on our personal goals. If you’re anything like me, you might have already broken your resolutions—or perhaps you didn’t even make any to begin with! Personally, I’ve never found New Year’s resolutions to be particularly effective, but I do wish my child would set a few ambitious targets. Despite all my efforts as a parent, there are still several areas where I hope for improvement.

With that in mind, I created a whimsical list of objectives I’d love for my 5-year-old to embrace this year. Of course, given my own track record with resolutions, I recognize that I’m not likely to get a toddler to follow through on these either. The absurdity of this wishful thinking should become apparent soon enough.

  • Finish dinner
  • Choose healthier options
  • Appreciate the meal your mom worked hard on
  • Eat what I served you from the microwave
  • Consume these two sugar packets
  • For the love of all that is holy, just eat something!
  • Speed up your eating
  • Put your clothes away
  • Tidy your room
  • Handle your own hygiene!
  • Go to bed on time
  • Actually sleep
  • Get more sleep
  • Stay in bed until morning
  • Pretend to be asleep
  • Just lie there quietly for a few hours?
  • Show kindness
  • Stand up for yourself
  • Avoid physical altercations
  • Use your words, please
  • Steer clear of inappropriate language
  • Communicate with us
  • Share the events of your day!
  • Keep your volume down
  • Limit your chatter
  • Don’t argue back
  • Could you please just stop talking?
  • Share your toys
  • Hand that back to me
  • Display respect
  • Use polite expressions
  • Say “please”
  • Say “thank you”
  • And again, say “thank you!”
  • Show me some gratitude for once!!!
  • Respond with “you’re welcome”
  • Reduce screen time

Honestly, I’m swamped. Just go watch some TV for a bit.

In conclusion, while these aspirations may seem outlandish, they reflect the everyday challenges parents face and the hope we hold for our children’s growth. For additional information on conception and parenting, you may find resources like NHS IVF and Cryobaby helpful.
