Dear Pinterest, You’ve Become My New Favorite Companion

I just had to take a moment to express my gratitude to you, Pinterest. You’ve truly become my new favorite companion. While Email and I have a close relationship, he sometimes brings a lot of negativity into my life, and let’s face it, I need a break from that. I mean, I keep telling him not to share personal information with strangers, but he remains blissfully naive and trusting. I do care for him, though.

Book is still a comforting presence in my life, and I cherish the hours we spend together. He brings a sense of calm that I appreciate.

However, Pinterest, you’ve carved out a special niche in my life. You’re always uplifting, supportive, and inspiring. You never judge, and you enrich my days without asking for anything in return, for that I am so thankful.

Honestly, I couldn’t have organized an epic Amazing Race birthday bash for my two teenagers without your help. You’ve provided countless creative ideas for teaching French that I never would have thought of on my own. And when dinner ideas escape me, you’re right there with practical suggestions that look just as good on the plate as they do in the picture. You’ve even guided me through organizing and decorating my home. Thanks to you, my kids’ summer plans are bursting with fun activities!

But here’s the thing—I have a tiny grievance. Ever since you started hanging out with Email, every time I visit him, there you are! It’s not that I’m jealous, but it used to be a quick in-and-out. Now, you’ve taken up residence there, making it impossible for me to have a brief chat with him. My family, my dog, and my other friends are starting to feel a bit neglected while you lure me in with your captivating visuals and step-by-step plans for amazing projects. Just when I think I’m about to leave, you pop up with “Wait, check this out!” I really need to set some boundaries!

Of course, it’s not entirely your fault—I’m the one with the slightly addictive personality. I’m an idea enthusiast! If only you knew how many projects I have on my plate right now… none of them finished. Oh no, now I’m feeling a little glum. I’ll never transform my backyard into a stunning oasis in a single afternoon or surprise my partner with an exquisite new walkway. And turning an egg carton into a chic framed mirror? Yeah, right! All these DIY gurus just make the rest of us feel utterly inadequate!

Yet, the thrill of claiming I did it myself and saved a boatload of cash is hard to resist. More importantly, I love adding my personal touch to make something unique.

But, Pinterest, as much as I’ve enjoyed our time together, I must admit I feel a tad let down sometimes. It’s like you dangle the ultimate carrot in front of me, saying, “Look at this fabulous lamp you can make from an antique postcard carousel that would perfectly match your travel-themed living room!” But where on Earth can I find that vintage postcard carousel? I’ll tell you where—nowhere! Sure, I could order one with international shipping, but that would wipe out my kids’ college funds. And then, there are the additional materials needed to create the lamp, and I’m left wondering if it’ll even turn out nice.

Maybe I should spend a bit more time with Book. I sense he’s feeling a little overlooked lately, and I wouldn’t want him thinking I don’t care anymore. You understand, don’t you, Pinterest? I’ll definitely be back to visit you soon, and I’m sure we’ll bump into each other at Email’s place.
