Ah, the mid-30s. Not ancient by any stretch, but lately, I can’t shake the feeling that I’m inching into that “getting older” territory. Want to know how I’ve come to this conclusion? Let me break it down for you, my younger friends…
- Birdwatching Enthusiast
I’ve caught myself gazing out the window, admiring a stunning female cardinal at my bird feeder—the very same one I requested for Mother’s Day. At this rate, I’ll soon be receiving bird-themed gifts from my kids every Christmas, and I can already picture myself in a cozy bird-printed sweater at their school events. It’s only a matter of time. - Chronic Back Pain
I’m not joking; my back feels like it’s in a perpetual state of discomfort. I’ve resorted to making my kids line up for back rubs. Sure, they might be little, but those bony elbows can really dig in! I guess this is just part of the aging process. - DVR is My Best Friend
Sorry, late-night talk shows! As much as I adore Jimmy, I’ve got to prioritize sleep over comedy. Who actually stays up that late anymore? - Guilty Pleasure TV
I’ll confess: I’ve become a fan of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. There’s something about knowing the answer that gets my heart racing—like Grandma at Bingo. I don’t actively seek these shows out, but if they’re on, I’m totally glued to the screen. - Weather Guru
I can predict the week’s weather with surprising accuracy. Just last night, I knew a cold front was on the way, and I made sure my kids wore their jackets this morning. Oh, and don’t think I don’t have an umbrella tucked away in my bag. That would just be silly. - Random Aches
Right now, my neck and thumb are giving me grief, and I have no clue why. It’s just one of those things that comes with age. I can’t even crochet without my thumb hurting! And yes, I’ve got Bengay stashed away for those delightful moments of discomfort. I smell like menthol and regret. - Lost in Translation
The slang of today? Not my forte. I have no clue what “bae,” “fleek,” or “turnt up” even mean! I still say “cool beans” and have had to Google “teen slang words 2015” more than once. - Snapchat Confusion
I gave Snapchat a whirl for a few days, but honestly? It felt pointless. Maybe I’m just too old for this. My eyes aren’t what they used to be, so by the time I can see the picture, poof! It’s gone. - Annoyance with Tiny Humans
I cherish Sunday mornings when my kids can make themselves breakfast and let me relax. If I’m asked to entertain little ones with their endless needs, I start to sweat. The baby train left my station ages ago, and I’m not ready for grandma life yet! - Sweet, Sweet Sleep
Ah, sleep—the ultimate luxury! I crave it, daydream about it, and often skip outings because I know I won’t make it through the night. I’m just old and tired.
Twenty-something me would probably roll her eyes at this list. But as the days go by, it’s inevitable: I’m becoming more like my mother and grandmother every day. So, I might as well embrace the sagging skin and stock up on some hard candy. Oh, and don’t forget the Bengay.

In summary, age has its quirks, and it’s a wild ride to navigate. But whether you’re birdwatching or finding joy in sleep, it’s all part of the experience. Here’s to embracing the golden years!
