So, here I am, navigating the paperwork for my son’s summer camp after a successful tour. He’s buzzing with excitement, and honestly, that’s what matters most right now—despite my emotional rollercoaster. My daughter, just 7, insists she wants to join in the fun, but we all know she might throw a tantrum if we head out for dinner without her. So, day camp it is for her!

Recently, I stumbled upon a list of some seriously cool camps: Hollywood stunt camp, coding camp, race car camp, secret agent camp, shark camp (in Fiji, no less!), roller coaster camp, and even a Harry Potter camp. While they all sound like a blast, the Harry Potter camp sparked my imagination for some new camp ideas—ones that my kids would adore and that might just give me a breather as their loving but often tired mom.

Here’s what I came up with:

1. Camp Half Blood (Percy Jackson Camp)

Is your child diving into the world of Percy Jackson and the Olympians? The books may not have the best adaptations, but they’re fantastic reads. Imagine kids divided into cabins named after Greek gods, engaging in camp wars and learning epic skills like metalwork (thanks, Hephaestus!) and water manipulation (Poseidon’s specialty). And for the girly girls, there’s Aphrodite, while sporty girls can channel their inner Artemis, the goddess of the hunt. My son even has the T-shirt to prove his fandom!

2. Phineas and Ferb Camp

Picture this: a whole day of inventing wild contraptions, then watching them mysteriously vanish by day’s end. Bonus points for the catchy camp songs that would surely stick in your head!

3. Hanging Out in the Neighborhood Camp

Let’s be honest; this is what kids really want. They just need a bit of structure! Daily breakfast at the diner, bike rides, playground stops, candy store visits, and delicious deli lunches would make for the ultimate summer experience. Remember when we used to call that “summer”? Ah, the good old days!

4. Anti-Gravity Camp

Ever caught yourself glued to those zero-gravity videos from the space station? Your kids would learn how to float and eat snacks like Homer Simpson! I can already see the giggles and amazement.

5. Life Skills Camp

Now, this one is purely for my sanity! I’d love for my kids to learn how to cook, clean their rooms, and—gasp—do their laundry. Who needs archery skills when you can master the art of picking up after yourself? Sign me up!

In summary, these camp ideas blend fun with a touch of practicality, offering kids a summer filled with adventure while giving parents a much-needed break. Who wouldn’t want to send their kids to a camp where they can learn something useful (like cooking!) while having a blast?
