The birth announcement from North Carolina couple Mia and Sam Thompson for their fourth child perfectly captures their journey. With 4-year-old twin daughters, a 3-year-old son, and another boy on the way, they were shocked to notice that enthusiasm for their announcements seemed to dwindle with each new addition. In a clever twist, they parodied Miley Cyrus’s hit “We Can’t Stop” to express their feelings.
Mia Thompson, 29, shared her experience: “When I mentioned our fourth baby, nobody seemed thrilled. It felt like we surpassed what others envisioned for our family. Four seems to be this strange benchmark in today’s culture that isn’t celebrated the same way.”
Their catchy video has struck a chord with fellow parents of larger families. The truth is, there’s no single answer when it comes to deciding how many children to have. Whether you opt for one, two, three, four, or even more kids, you’re bound to face judgment from someone, somewhere.
When I was expecting my third child after two sons, I frequently encountered questions about whether I was “trying for a girl,” as if the sole purpose of having a third child was merely to balance gender ratios. Spoiler alert: I wasn’t!
My new mantra for dealing with judgmental comments? I like to think their snarky remarks stem from their own insecurities or choices rather than my family dynamics. So when someone critiques our family size (Too big! Odd numbers! Not enough!), I assume they might wish they had made different choices.
As Mia belts out in their catchy video:
“Can’t you see it’s us who’ll be up all night?
Can’t you see it’s us who love this life?”
In the meantime, Mia is thrilled that her degree in music and creativity are coming in handy as their video surpasses 2 million views! In summary, the Thompson family’s joyful announcement highlights the joy of larger families despite societal pressures. They embrace their unique journey, proving that love and laughter far outweigh judgments.
