Parenting can feel like a wild ride, and let’s face it, a sense of humor is essential. Without it, I might just find myself in a padded room or at the very least, wallowing in a pit of despair.
I promise not to judge the mom in the supermarket who, on a frantic grocery run, resorts to handing out gummy bears to her wailing toddler. Sometimes, it’s just about survival!
I will not compete with the mom who seems to whip up gourmet meals from scratch or crafts incredible costumes from everyday items. Parenting isn’t a race—the only ones who truly lose are those who sprint the fastest.
When I see parents with a fussy baby on a flight, I’ll offer them looks of understanding instead of annoyance. I can leave my kid behind at baggage claim, but they’re in it for the whole trip!
I will never ask a woman if she’s expecting. It’s a question best left unasked.
I won’t criticize the mom who wears the same comfy yoga pants and flip-flops for the third day in a row. She’s got her reasons, trust me!
I’ll admit that I know nothing about any child but my own—who remains a delightful enigma.
I will gladly hold newborns for friends and family, so they can enjoy a well-deserved shower or nap. Seriously, that’s all new moms really want!
I’ll do my best to avoid passing along my own body image issues to my daughter. She deserves a mother who embraces her body, stretch marks and all.
I won’t preach about the virtues of breastfeeding, circumcision, or organic snacks to fellow moms who haven’t asked for my opinion. It’s really none of my business!
I’ll be careful about saying “never,” because who knows? I might end up with a rambunctious child who loves wearing a bikini and shooting water guns.
Lastly, I’ll remember that no mom is flawless, and my kids will thrive because of me—and sometimes, despite me.
