Actress Mira Sorvino, 47, recently chatted with our contributor Jeanne Wolfe about her latest film, the joys of motherhood, and the occasional date night with her husband, actor Daniel Brooks, 33.

With the surge in faith-based films and television shows, were you taken aback by their popularity?

Not at all! I believe that faith, in its many forms, resonates with those searching for deeper meaning in life. It’s not merely about material possessions like fancy cars or the latest gadgets. Life should mean more than the latest reality TV drama. This film caters to a faith-seeking audience craving content that addresses those profound themes.

How significant is faith in your own life?

I proudly identify as a Christian. My faith has always been a cornerstone for me; I was raised in the Episcopal Church and remain committed to my beliefs. Over the years, my faith has deepened as I’ve embraced it for myself, rather than simply following the teachings I received. It plays a crucial role in my life and in raising my children.

Speaking of your kids, you have four of them—what’s that like?

It’s a joyous whirlwind! I always say “four is more” because when we had three, I longed for another, even though my husband was hesitant. After a bit of persuasion, we welcomed our fourth child, and it’s been beautifully chaotic ever since.

How do you manage the demands of motherhood alongside your acting career?

I often feel like I’m in a tug-of-war between my career and my family’s needs. When I’m away for work, I feel guilty, but I strive to be an engaged and loving mom whenever I’m home. Acting comes with long stretches of downtime, which allows me to be fully present with my kids, but when I’m on set, it’s tough to balance everything. The reality is that no one can do it all perfectly—something inevitably has to give.

What about spending quality time with your husband?

We do have date nights, but they require quite a bit of planning! I usually ask him, “Honey, which evening next week works for a date night?” since we don’t have a full-time nanny. A simple dinner out feels like a treat for us. We often choose a nice spot like Nobu, and that’s just about perfect for us.

In summary, balancing a career in acting while raising four children is no easy feat for Mira Sorvino. She openly discusses the challenges of feeling torn between her professional aspirations and family life, acknowledging that it often feels like a struggle. Despite these challenges, her faith remains a guiding light, and she finds joy in her chaotic yet rewarding home life.
