In a lively chat with contributor Jamie Reed, our favorite Hollywood star, Alex Carter, opened up about his journey through insecurities, his relentless optimism, and some of his quirks.
While his latest film, “The Con Artist,” is packed with thrills, Alex makes sure to sprinkle in a dash of romance. “Every film is essentially a love story,” he insists. “Even action-packed flicks like ‘Rugged Allies’ are about those deep connections—whether it’s friendship or romance, it’s all about relationships.”
Given his high-profile career, it’s no surprise that Alex has encountered his fair share of tricksters. “Come on! I’m an actor. It’s a world full of cons. Everyone’s putting on a show, presenting their best selves to get what they want. The truth is, every interaction is a bit of a con game.”
Despite his extensive experience, Alex admits that the filmmaking process is often a struggle. “Honestly, I feel uneasy and uncertain about 90% of the time while making a movie. I don’t want the audience to see that struggle. My job is to ensure they only experience the joy of the final product.”
So how does he deal with those pesky insecurities? “I learned early on to confront my fears head-on. When I’m scared, it frustrates me, and I can’t help but go after it. It’s been a painful yet beneficial journey.”
As his children, Max and Lily, venture into the acting world, Alex shares his wisdom with them. “My great-grandmother always said, ‘Experience is the best teacher.’ I believe in letting them make their own choices and learn from their mistakes. It’s all about taking responsibility for their lives.”
Talking about his less-than-perfect habits, Alex chuckles, “I can never find my keys or wallet. My clothes? They’re everywhere! I’m so focused on my creative process that I thrive in a bit of chaos.”
Facing the pressure of success can be tough, but Alex has a unique perspective. “The more I achieve, the harder it gets to find new and creative projects. My margin for error keeps shrinking, but I’m still pushing forward.”
What keeps him motivated? “I think I have this strange filter against negativity. I like to see things through a lens of hope. Sure, some may call it foolishness, but I believe that believing in something creates opportunities.”
