It seems we’ve had a little misunderstanding regarding chores around the house, and I think it’s time to address it. When you were younger, there were certain tasks you couldn’t handle due to your size or maturity level. But now that you’ve grown, there’s a lot you can contribute to our home!
However, it appears that I’m still tackling most of the household duties solo, which has me wondering why. I’ve come to realize that it might not be laziness on your part, but rather a concern for my feelings. You may think that if you pitch in with cleaning, I might take it as an insult. Just to clarify, I’ve been cleaning up after you for years, so I’m more than comfortable with my skills!
Another thought is that you might believe if I’m not busy with chores, I could end up with too much free time and become bored. Let me assure you, I haven’t been bored since the day you were born! Any spare time would quickly be filled with fun activities.
It also struck me that I might not have formally given you the green light to tackle chores that were once off-limits. So, consider this your official permission slip! If any of the concerns I mentioned have been holding you back from helping out, here’s a little reminder that I’m not the only one who can:
- Recycle: Next time you finish a drink or snack, please drop the empty container in the recycling bin instead of leaving it on the counter.
- Do your laundry: I can’t always wash your favorite outfits multiple times a week. Feel free to handle your own laundry! I’ve already shown you how to sort it and use the washer.
- Load the dishwasher: If you find dirty dishes in the sink, remember the dishwasher is right there! It only takes a moment to load your items instead of leaving them for me to deal with.
- Unload the dishwasher: If you notice the dishwasher is full of clean dishes, don’t hesitate to put them away. It might take a little longer than a commercial break, but it’s doable!
- Vacuum: I know it can be loud, but with your earbuds, it doesn’t have to be scary anymore. Trust me, I’m used to the noise of you kids!
- Scrub toilets: I’ve cleaned up enough messes in my time, and I’d love to see you tackle your own bathroom duties. Go ahead and give it a shot!
And let’s not forget about mopping, dusting, changing bed sheets, organizing, and window washing. If you’re interested in any of these tasks, just come talk to me. I might be surprised, but I promise I won’t be angry.
I’m glad we had this conversation. I feel relieved, and I hope you do too. Now, how about you head off and clean something up?
Much love,
Mom
