Hey there, fellow parents! I see you over there at the restaurant, enjoying a meal with your partner or perhaps just spending time with your little one, much like I often do. You’re engaged in a conversation—an actual adult conversation, no less! It’s refreshing to talk about something other than Minecraft or Mario Kart, isn’t it? Or maybe you’re just taking a moment to yourself, letting your thoughts drift while your child is absorbed in their own digital adventure.
Let me assure you, I’m not judging you. In fact, I am you.
I notice you because I completely understand where you’re coming from. Finding even a few minutes in the day to connect with another adult can feel like a luxury. And when it happens, wow—it’s like reviving a parched plant with water. That connection is vital; it’s like a burst of energy for your spirit. Sharing your thoughts, listening to someone, enjoying a laugh—these are the moments that truly matter.
The Daily Grind
As parents, we often find ourselves trapped in the daily grind. We rise early, head to work, come home wiped out, and our kids are clamoring for our attention. We give baths, cook (a term I use loosely), and listen to tales about characters like Enderman—who, by the way, I still don’t quite understand. We tuck our little ones into bed, showering them with love, and then, we’re spent. We plop down to watch TV, scroll through social media, and before we know it, another day has passed without truly connecting with the adults we cherish or even with ourselves. Both types of connection are essential, and I think we all know that.
Embrace the Moments
So when those precious moments arise—when you can chat with a friend, spouse, neighbor, or family member—don’t hesitate to give your little one a distraction. Sure, we don’t want our kids glued to screens all the time (believe me, I get it as a mom to a gaming enthusiast). But if handing them a tablet or game allows you to enjoy a moment of adult interaction or some well-deserved alone time, then go for it, parents! Embrace it without guilt.
Sure, the older generation might not understand. They’ll raise eyebrows or make comments about today’s kids and our reliance on technology as a “digital babysitter.” While it’s important to teach our kids manners and the value of face-to-face interactions—like looking up from devices when ordering food—don’t beat yourself up for taking a moment for yourself. You’re doing an incredible job! When you hand over that iPad, it doesn’t make you any less of a great parent. Your child is out at a restaurant enjoying a meal—that’s a win in my book! Later, you can have quality time with board games or baking together. But for now? You deserve a medal for being “Parent of the Year.”
Let’s Ditch the Guilt
Let’s ditch the guilt and embrace the fact that being a fantastic parent also means nurturing our own well-being. Sound good?

In Summary
