The Thanksgiving Initiative started back in 2014, fueled by a small group of mothers who bravely shared their struggles to afford a Thanksgiving meal. A handful of compassionate readers stepped up to lend a hand. Nobody set out to change the world; we just wanted to brighten one family’s holiday. And then, something incredible happened.
More families reached out, sharing their challenges, and even more individuals joined the effort, contributing anywhere from a dollar to several hundred. Thanks to this amazing community, over four hundred families were able to celebrate Thanksgiving with a meal they otherwise would have missed. This initiative blossomed into a registered charity, and a new era of giving began.
At our core, we celebrate the diverse voices of mothers everywhere. Beneath our differences lies the universal bond of a mother’s love for her children. What could be more instinctively maternal than the desire to nurture and support your family? That’s the essence of the Thanksgiving Initiative. Our children and the fight for their well-being unite this community. To date, more than 4,500 families have received support through our program. Just last year, we handled 2,765 applications and met every single one.

Curious about past recipients? You can read their inspiring stories here. If you’re able to lend a hand to a family in need, please consider donating. Just fifty dollars can provide a full Thanksgiving dinner—of course, you can give less and team up with other donors or give more to sponsor multiple families.
You can also send checks to our charity’s mailing address.
