Picture this: I’m at the park, gently pushing my daughter on the swing. Suddenly, the mom next to me strikes up a conversation. “Is that your granddaughter?” she asks, a warm smile on her face. Fast forward to my grocery trip, where the cashier beams and says, “What a lucky baby to have Grandma out shopping today!” Cue the internal gray hair check in the visor mirror—yup, it was time for a touch-up. Although moms in their 40s with newborns are becoming more common, I understand the confusion; after all, my grandma was just 40 when she became a grandmother. But you know what? I’m not about to correct them or get botox. Here’s why being an older mom rocks:

  1. Who needs toys? My skin has lost enough elasticity that my kids can have a blast pulling and twisting it. Hours of entertainment right here!
  2. Forget about math workbooks! They can simply count the wrinkles on my face—talk about real-life math!
  3. Double the diaper deals! I need them as much as my child does, so it’s like a coupon win-win.
  4. Rushing potty training? Nah! I tell my daughter that in 40 years, she’ll probably be back in diapers anyway. Makes you wonder why we even bother making the bed every day, right?
  5. When my little one has an accident, I can’t get too upset—let’s be honest, my accidents are twice as messy.
  6. Homemade baby food? It doubles as my snack too! Who knew being an older mom was also a culinary convenience?
  7. Coloring books are out; my kids love to grab brown markers and color my gray hairs instead. And picking out my hair dye each month? It’s like art supply shopping!
  8. Many older moms, like me, have older kids too. Now I get to relax at the playground while they push the baby on the swing. A well-deserved break for this mom!
  9. Nursing with sagging boobs? It’s a breeze! They practically lay next to me, so I don’t even have to roll over. Multitasking at its finest—I could nurse while cooking dinner!
  10. No need for a travel pillow; my belly pooch is perfect for them to rest their heads. Who knew the perks of motherhood could be so practical?

When I finally become a grandmother, I’ll be ready to embrace the role.
