Lately, my social media feeds have been overflowing with blog posts aimed at parents on how to navigate the first day of school. I see countless adorable snapshots of little ones grinning proudly while clutching signs that proclaim, “First Day of Preschool!”
I can’t help but feel a twinge of envy over that quintessential parental moment of sending kids off on a big yellow bus. But then I hear the gripes from fellow parents about everything from the chaos of PTA meetings to the confounding “New Math.” And just like that, my envy turns into relief as I remember the 25 reasons why I absolutely love homeschooling my kids.
- We never have to scramble to catch the bus.
- Mornings don’t involve haphazardly packing lunches.
- My wallet isn’t held hostage for pricey gadgets or trendy clothes.
- If I’m not feeling like a great teacher (yep, that’s me!), I just brew another cup of coffee and chill out.
- Family vacations can happen whenever we want, not dictated by a school calendar.
- Illness doesn’t derail our learning journey.
- We can skip dissecting frogs—thank goodness!
- New Math? No, thanks. I’ll stick to the basics!
- My “PTA Meeting” is more like me enjoying a glass of wine while browsing for innovative ideas online.
- No bake sales or crafting 132 Valentine cards for me!
- My kids won’t annoy family and friends to buy overpriced wrapping paper or smelly candles.
- Subjects like Art, Music, and Home Economics are still part of our curriculum.
- My energetic son isn’t labeled a troublemaker for being a hands-on learner.
- Local businesses are often thrilled to offer private tours—free of charge!
- We can delve deeply into nurturing our kids’ interests and skills.
- We focus on annual portfolio reviews instead of standardized tests.
- Bullying isn’t a problem in our home.
- There’s no need for specialists, counselors, or principals to oversee us.
- If I have concerns about religious or historical content, I can tweak the curriculum or leave it out.
- My kids are always the popular ones at our lunch table.
- Socializing isn’t confined to 20 minutes of recess on the same playground.
- Detention? Never heard of it around here!
- Every lesson is hands-on, loud, messy, and always open to spontaneous changes.
- If the kids lose interest, we easily switch things up to reignite their enthusiasm.
- I get to see my children explore the world in extraordinary ways every single day!
I never envisioned myself as a homeschooling mom, but here I am, and it’s truly a blessing. I’m incredibly thankful for the chance to stay home and educate my children. Sure, I occasionally feel a bit envious of my friends’ humorous tales about the trials of back-to-school season, but I wouldn’t trade this experience for all the gluten-free vegan brownies in the world!
