A close friend of mine, Sarah, welcomed her first baby just a month after my second was born. Lately, she’s been sharing on social media how dramatically her life has shifted since becoming a mom. She’s struggling with back pain, lamenting about those stubborn ten extra pounds, and wondering when she’ll feel like herself again.
I had to break it to her: NEVER. You will never be the same again.
- Your back will always have that little twinge.
- Your chest might not look quite how it used to.
- Your tummy may have a permanent pooch.
- Your hips? Well, they might just be a bit wider.
- Your hair, your skin, even your bladder control – let’s just say, they’re all on a new journey, whether it’s for better or worse.
Sleep? Forget about it.
You might be living in a nursing bra for a while.
Solo bathroom trips? Ha! Those are a thing of the past for at least a few years.
And guess what? You’ll find yourself discussing poop more than you ever imagined.
- Crumb-free floors? A distant dream.
- Stain-free clothes? Good luck with that!
- And those pedicures and haircuts you used to enjoy? They might become a rare treat.
- Getting through the laundry or dishes daily? Not likely.
Sure, all of that is true. But here’s what I didn’t mention to her:
- Your smile will grow wider.
- Your laughter will be filled with more joy.
- Your eyes will shine brighter than ever.
- Your arms will be full of love.
- Your heart will feel like it’s bursting with happiness.
- Your capacity to love will expand infinitely.
So yes, once you bring a child (or two, or three, or even four) into the world, things will never be the same. But that’s perfectly okay because who would want to go back?
