Hey there! I really do like you, but I just can’t wrap my head around your love for snow days. You seem perfectly normal until the announcement of a snow day turns you into a cheerleader. So, let’s take a moment to break it down for you.
When school gets canceled, it means your kids are home with you. If your initial reaction is still “Woo-hoo!” then I can only conclude one of the following:
- You must be joking.
- You’re clocking in at a job outside the house.
- You have a live-in nanny.
- You have some fancy meds that I need.
- Your children have staged a coup and are speaking on your behalf.
I can’t think of any other reasons! To help bridge our understanding, here’s why my response is more like “Ugh!” instead of “Yay!”:
- I’m not keen on being a personal chef for the day.
- I have writing to do, and it’s hard to concentrate with kids wailing over their broken Rainbow Looms.
- Alone time in the bathroom? Gone.
- I feel guilty if I let my kids binge-watch movies or play video games all day, yet the constant chatter is a lot to handle.
- My snacks? They’re suddenly community property.
So, I hope you see where I’m coming from. If you’re too busy whipping up hot cocoa for your blanket fort, could I possibly drop my kids off at your place? Just for the day, of course! (Unless there’s another snow day tomorrow, in which case, I’m out of luck.)
Warmly,
Maggie
