Do you find yourself frantically thinking, “Oh no, the holidays are almost here!” just days before the whirlwind of gift-giving and family feasting kicks off? Trust me, you’re not alone! Whether it’s Hanukkah sneaking up on you or Christmas and New Year’s approaching like a freight train, the holidays can be overwhelming.

I personally thrive on the last-minute rush. An hour before my family arrives for a “home-cooked” dinner (which really means take-out served on fancy plates), I scramble to throw up a few menorahs, toss some dreidels around, and maybe even hang a couple of stockings with tape. Who says you can’t be classy while making your home look like a festive wonderland? Just call me the modern-day Martha Stewart!

This time of year is indeed magical, with twinkling lights brightening the night. But as the days zoom by, I often find myself feeling more frantic than festive. My gift list seems to grow exponentially, much like my waistband after indulging in one too many holiday treats. With so much to juggle—like figuring out which restaurant to order from or how to catch my favorite shows amidst the chaos—sometimes it feels like I could use a little help from Santa’s elves.

While the holiday season can be a delightful yet stressful time, a few clever tips can lighten your load. Here’s a quirky list to keep you sane:

  1. Tell everyone you’re going on a trip… while staying put.
  2. Switch hairdressers or nail salons regularly. One less gift to buy!
  3. Hide your scale and rock those comfy clothes.
  4. Draw silly mustaches on all those cheerful holiday cards.
  5. Trade your regular coffee for decaf, and decaf for a splash of cheer!
  6. Indulge in chocolate at every meal—it’s a holiday tradition, right?
  7. Do your holiday shopping at the grocery store; gift cards work just fine.
  8. Ditch the wrapping paper and cards—you’re going “green”!
  9. Opt for potluck dinners; let the kids fend for themselves!
  10. Try to avoid leaving the house from Nov. 26 to Jan. 2. Think of the gas savings!
  11. Make everyone wear festive colors to add flair to gatherings.
  12. Save on hair dye and just claim your greys are tinsel!
  13. Re-gifting is totally okay, as long as it doesn’t go back to the original giver.
  14. Laugh often, and drink even more—time will fly!
  15. When in doubt, add eggnog to your coffee—morning and night!

Remember, regardless of how you celebrate, it’s the most wonderfully chaotic time of the year! Happy Holidays!
