Today, I’m determined to savor every moment of my life. Even when I’m frantically preparing for work, ushering the kids out the door, packing lunches, signing forms, and wiping sticky faces. Just when I think I’ve got it all under control, I’ll see the school bus pull away with my son aboard—while I still hold his soccer gear in my hand. I’ll chuckle at the absurdity of it all.
Even in the midst of a flat tire and a frozen pipe, all happening in the same week my partner is away for work, I’ll dive into the car manual and grab the blow torch like a pro. As I wrestle with tire bolts or stand shivering in the shed trying to thaw a pipe, I’ll remind myself: I’m an absolute rock star right now.
When the dishes seem to multiply like rabbits and I find myself cursing the inventor of Play-Doh (seriously, who has time to sweep?), I’ll dive back in and tackle the mess. Today, I’ll embrace the satisfaction of creating a clean space amidst the chaos.
When my son returns home feeling down because no one played with him at recess, or my daughter calls me mean for not granting her juice, or my partner and I bicker over dinner, I’ll remind myself that these little bumps are what make us beautifully human.
Even as I fret over my parents’ health or worry about launching my children into the world, I’ll pause, take a deep breath, and remind myself that there’s so much goodness around me.
When that ever-present inner critic chimes in, whispering about how I should be doing core exercises, I’ll tell it to hush because I’m busy cheering for my kid at soccer practice.
Even when the noise becomes overwhelming and I feel the urge to shout, “Can we please have some quiet?!” I’ll take a moment to appreciate their joyful chaos, realizing that their wildness is part of their learning journey. Amidst all the racket, I’ll just turn around and whip up dinner.
When exhaustion sets in and the night monsters make an appearance, I’ll hold my little one close, brush her hair back, and paint whimsical images of dancing monsters in tutus. At three in the morning, I’ll even join in on the tutu dance—I’ll really shake my groove thang!
Even in moments of uncertainty, I’ll remind myself I’m not alone in this motherhood adventure; it’s not a competition about who has it all figured out.
At the end of a particularly long day, when doing everything right seems impossible, I might just opt for popcorn and ice cream for dinner, and we’ll snuggle up for a movie marathon, our legs tangled on the couch.
Because today, I’m choosing to enjoy every facet of my life.
