Thanksgiving is hands down my favorite holiday. There’s just something magical about the aroma of turkey filling the air and handprint turkeys adorning the table. I relish every bite of turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, and a touch of cranberry sauce. And let’s not forget those leftover sandwiches the next day—pure bliss! Most importantly, this holiday gives me a chance to concentrate on what truly matters: enjoying the company of my cherished ones in a home I adore.
But unfortunately, not everyone shares this same fortune. This year has been a tough ride for many, and the stories I hear in my confessional are heart-wrenching. “I can barely make ends meet to feed my family. It’s humiliating… I went for a food box, but they said I earn too much, and I just cried. I have no food! I don’t live lavishly, I work at the welfare office. I can’t even tell my family how dire things are.”
For many, the idea of a Thanksgiving feast feels far-fetched. As I reflect on my own fortunate circumstances, where worry about meals is a rarity, I can’t help but think about those who are struggling. I’m determined to find a way to lift spirits, even if just for one evening. I want every mom out there to sit down for a Thanksgiving meal without the burden of financial stress, enjoying good food and the warmth of loved ones.
Last year, it was reported that the average cost of a Thanksgiving dinner for ten people was around $43.47. That’s less than fifty bucks for a night filled with comforting food for the body and soul. For those of us who are lucky, that’s a small price to pay.
So, if you find yourself needing a little help this Thanksgiving, don’t hesitate to let me know in the comments (anonymously, if you prefer—your email will remain confidential). And if you have an extra $25 to share, please speak up too! My goal is to pair two generous donors with moms who need it, providing them with $50 gift cards for their local grocery stores. Leave a comment about what you can offer, and I’ll reach out to you soon.
The first two meals are on me… Who’s next? Let’s make Thanksgiving a shared celebration!
