For the last few weeks, I’ve been under the weather. My throat felt like I’d swallowed a cactus, my nose was so stuffed it could be mistaken for a holiday turkey, and my sinuses were aching with a vengeance. Add to that the joy of my son battling an ear infection and strep throat—he’s been practically glued to my face. Of course, I ended up catching whatever he had. After finally caving in and going on antibiotics for a sinus infection last week, I was starting to feel better. But just as I was getting back to my usual self, my husband decided to join the sick club.
Now, let me just say, I adore my husband. I genuinely think we’re meant to be together; he’s my partner in crime, my rock, and all that lovey-dovey stuff. But when he’s feeling ill? Let’s just say my imagination takes a dark turn involving sharp kitchen utensils and a quick getaway with the kids.
Seriously, you would’ve thought he was on his last leg over the weekend. Picture this: he’s lying in bed, moaning about how sick he is, barely managing to drag himself to the Minute Clinic for some antibiotics and a hefty dose of sympathy. An hour later, he calls me, sounding utterly defeated. “Did they give you anything?” I asked, half-hoping for some good news. “No,” he groaned. “The strep test was negative, and the doctor said it couldn’t be a sinus infection since it just started.”
So, what is it then? Oh, just a cold. A man-cold, to be precise. Someone, please send help. If we make it through this week, it’ll be a miracle.
