Every morning, as soon as I pry my eyes open, I become a mom in constant motion. From that first flicker of consciousness to the moment I finally collapse into bed at night, it’s like I’m in a never-ending marathon.
The to-do lists seem to stretch into infinity, each task cascading into the next. First, it’s time to wake the kids, then feed them, and of course, I need my coffee. Breathe? What’s that?
“Quickly now, we can’t be late!” I shout, as I scramble to locate missing shoes and backpacks. “You don’t want to wear your jacket? What do you mean?” It’s a whirlwind of hurry, hurry, hurry! Multitasking becomes my superpower; I’m cooking, cleaning, and checking off lists all at once. Focus? It’s a game of whack-a-mole—everywhere and nowhere at once.
More coffee, please! I fire up my laptop and plunge into work while glancing at the clock. “Hurry, hurry! Can’t be late!” I pick up one child, then the other, all while checking backpacks and signing agendas. Homework help is next on the list. Was it always this complicated? Thank goodness my teenager can tackle math! Common Core Math? Let’s just say it’s a whole new ball game.
The motion never ceases. “Dinner is ready, just a few bites, please!” While they munch, I’m loading the dishwasher, sweeping floors, and wiping counters—never a moment to stop.
“Can you put your backpack away? And find your shoes so tomorrow morning is easier?” “You don’t know where they are?” I can’t even! We’re off again—dance class for my daughter and karate for my son. “Everyone into the car, let’s GO!”
Once I drop one off, it’s a race to the next. Where is my list? Quick errands while the kids are occupied, then I’m back at it—picking them up and returning home. “Yes, you need a shower, and yes, you have to wash your hair! Hurry up, your sister is waiting!”
As bedtime approaches, I tuck them in and finally feel the day’s chaos starting to fade. But wait! I still need to check laundry, empty the dishwasher, and make sure we’re stocked up on milk. And don’t forget to prep the coffee pot for the morning!
Even as I lay my head down, my mind is still on overdrive, crafting tomorrow’s to-do list—adding in all the tasks from today that went unfinished. There’s always tomorrow!
