Dear Little One,

Hello there! It’s your mommy, and I can hardly contain my excitement to meet you!

Your new room is nearly finished in our cozy house. Leaving the city was tough, but we wanted to ensure that you and your brother had access to top-notch schools. Now, we have a fantastic playroom, a spacious yard, and four bedrooms for you, your brother, and maybe even another sibling someday.

We’ve been eagerly waiting for you to arrive, and I can’t help but wonder—what’s taking you so long? Are you being considerate of my first-time mom friends? That’s sweet, but honestly, everyone seems to be either pregnant or with baby #1 or #2. Our Christmas cards this year were filled with birth announcements! Don’t worry; there’s plenty of room for you.

Are you trying to teach me patience? I get it—it’s not my strongest quality. I manage fine with your big brother, but put me in a traffic jam or face computer issues, and I lose my cool fast.

Do you plan to take your sweet time like I do? I’m known for being a slowpoke, and Grandma always joked that I was the last one out of school.

Are you concerned that we love your brother so much that we won’t have enough love for you? I assure you, my love for him won’t diminish my excitement for you. In fact, the love I have for your big brother only increases my desire to welcome you into our family. I can’t wait to see the two of you grow up together!

Do you think being in my tummy will make me feel sick? Don’t worry about that—I’m ready for anything, including multiple trips to the bathroom.

Are you concerned that you’ll give me back pain? That’s what prenatal yoga is for! I’m ready to sign up as soon as you arrive.

And if you’re wondering if I’ll be disappointed if you’re a boy (I suspect you will be) instead of a girl (your dad thinks otherwise), let me assure you, my dear boy, I will embrace you wholeheartedly. Plus, less learning about diaper changes!

You’re always on my mind. I think about you more times a day than I can count. I dream about snuggling after nursing, watching you take your first steps, and trying to hold back tears on your first day of kindergarten.

So, what’s the holdup? Some days, I worry that your brother’s conception was a miracle, and maybe having another child isn’t in the cards for me. Please prove me wrong! Join our family; there’s more than enough love to share. Your brother will start preschool in the fall, and I’d love to spend that time with you. Until then, I’ll be here…just waiting.

Love,
Mommy
