If you’ve turned on your TV, scrolled through social media, or even stepped outside, you’ve probably heard the name Floyd Mayweather pop up more times than you can count.
Now, I’m not what you’d call a sports fanatic—not even close. In fact, I’m just an everyday woman, wife, and mother. This brings me to an important question for those who support Mayweather’s boxing career: What makes Floyd Mayweather a “great man”?
Not a great boxer, mind you, but a great man.
He must be a humble guy, right? Or perhaps he’s someone who treats others with respect, especially the women in his life who have cared for him and raised his children. Not so much? Okay, then maybe he’s the kind of person who acknowledges his mistakes and strives to improve himself. Oh dear, I sense a resounding “no” there.
Who Exactly is Floyd Mayweather?
A quick search online yields a rather grim list of descriptors: abuser, coward, greedy, bully, liar, cheater, manipulator, and disrespectful—just to name a few. Yet, he enjoys an impressive following, including politicians and some of the biggest celebrities. How is this possible? More importantly, why is it happening?
Mayweather has a troubling history of domestic violence stretching back 14 years. Yes, you read that right—14 years. He has consistently denied multiple physical assaults on various women, including incidents where his own children were witnesses. Imagine that—their mother crying for help while their father was the one causing the pain.
In an interview with a prominent journalist, he claimed, “When it is all said and done, only God can judge me.” Yet, when invited to make a public donation to a charity for battered women, he declined. He’s even defended Ray Rice, suggesting the NFL’s punishment was too severe for Rice’s domestic abuse charges.
The Consequences of His Actions
And you might think he’s faced some serious consequences for his actions. What’s the worst he’s experienced? A mere two months in jail. Yep, just 60 days. Why is this acceptable? Why do we continue to glorify a man who has harmed multiple women?
When reporters confront him about these allegations, his typical response is “PROVE IT.” If there aren’t photos, then it never happened. And even if evidence existed, do you really think he wouldn’t find a way to eliminate it for the sake of his career and bank account? Of course he would.
His defensive arrogance speaks volumes about his guilt. We’ve somehow let this man off the hook for far too long, all for what? So we can watch him throw punches in the ring?
Even if just one of these allegations is true, you’d think at some point he’d reflect and say, “Hey, I need to make amends and get help.” But instead, he continues to thrive without a care in the world.
Role Model or Not?
How does he measure up as a role model for your children? How will you justify his success when your child asks why he beats women? What will you say when your son expresses a desire to be just like Floyd Mayweather or when your daughter dreams of marrying someone like him?
Is Mayweather truly a winner, or is he merely a man who’s lost sight of what truly matters—showing kindness and respect to others? The message being sent is clear: if you can entertain people like Floyd Mayweather, you can get away with anything.
But here’s the real takeaway: there are no winners in this scenario, just a multitude of losers. Floyd Mayweather stands out as the biggest loser of all. Sure, he’s a boxing champ, but who really cares about that? He’s squandering his talent while mistreating women. And we sit back, cheer him on, and let it happen without consequences. It needs to end.
Let’s redirect our support to his children and their mothers, who truly deserve our encouragement and love.

Summary
In the age of celebrity culture, we must question the values we uphold. Floyd Mayweather’s legacy is marred by a history of domestic violence and a lack of accountability. This raises profound questions about his role as a role model and the message we send to future generations. It’s time to shift our support towards those who truly deserve it.
