Yesterday, as I stood in the kitchen whipping up peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch, my partner, Alex, waltzed in behind me. “Looks like you’re not exactly pouring your heart into those,” he quipped, watching me slather jelly on three slices of bread in a rather robotic fashion.
“Love?” I chuckled. “Not really.”
Maybe it’s because the kids have been munching on the same old sandwiches day in and day out. Or perhaps it’s the fact that any time I try to switch things up, they come home with uneaten food, leaving me to deal with two starving little ones. It could also be that I’m still half-asleep when I’m preparing their lunches in the morning. Honestly, I’d prefer to savor their PB&J instead of my Greek yogurt. Then there’s the pile of laundry that looks like a mountain and a sink full of dirty dishes that’s giving me the side-eye. I guess it’s a combination of all these factors.
But let’s be honest: love doesn’t exactly make its way into their lunch boxes.
Now, picture this: lunches crafted with heaps of affection, a sprinkle of joy, and just a tad bit of madness. Mine, on the other hand, are made out of sheer necessity. And you know what? I bet they taste just as good!

In summary, my approach to making lunches might lack the touchy-feely vibe, but it’s all about surviving the day with a smile (and a bit of humor).
