Transforming Your Blog into a Book: A Fun Journey

When I first launched my blog, I envisioned it as a digital scrapbook for my little ones. I’m not the type of parent who keeps track of every milestone like first words or steps, and let’s be real—my memory isn’t exactly reliable! I struggle to print photos, and although I love crafts, I’ve never quite gotten into scrapbooking. So, I thought, why not use a blog to chronicle our adventures, the highs and lows, and everything in between? And boy, has it been a wild ride.

As 2008 came to a close, I dove headfirst into the task of turning my blog into a book. Let me tell you, it was no walk in the park! The site I chose (blurb.com) didn’t play nicely with my blogging platform at the time. I ended up having to manually import each and every photo and post. It took ages! But for just 50 bucks, I ended up with a hardcover version of my blog. I designed each page myself—some were text-heavy, others were purely images, and most were a delightful mix of both. The customization options were great, allowing me to use any fonts I had on my computer.

Now, I won’t sugarcoat everything. There were some hiccups along the way—like the fact that I never managed to chat with a real person when I needed help, and the binding on my first book was a bit wonky and needed to be swapped out. Plus, the system had its fair share of crashes. However, despite these issues, I’m thrilled with the final product and it has reignited my passion for writing in 2009.
