Alright, parents, it’s time for some candid truths. We, the grandparents, have a few things to share with you.
- We don’t want to babysit constantly. Sure, we adore our grandkids—perhaps even more than we love you. But let’s be real; we’ve already done our time raising children. It’s your turn now!
- Your parenting methods aren’t our favorites. When you leave your children in our care, please don’t hand us a list of do’s and don’ts. We’ve successfully raised kids before and can figure this out on our own. Honestly, we’re not fans of your style, either.
- We sometimes pretend to be out of town. Yep, you heard that right. Sometimes we just don’t feel like babysitting.
- Your kids spill all the tea. We’re well aware of the family drama, such as your fights with your partner or your news about baby No. 4, long before you muster the courage to share.
- We indulge them with junk food. Yes, we know that you don’t approve, but it’s the quickest way to bring peace and quiet to a chaotic environment.
- We chuckle when they misbehave. Let’s face it; it’s a little bit of karma coming back to you.
- We buy gifts that drive you crazy. Call it payback for all those times you rolled your eyes at us.
- They can play video games endlessly here. Let’s be honest, we’d rather not engage in endless games when they can happily entertain themselves.
- We get tired quickly. We may be older and don’t have the same energy levels as you. It’s perfectly fine to find a babysitter once in a while!
- We prioritize their safety. We’re not oblivious; we don’t need to be told to keep them away from danger.
- Your kids can be dishonest. Believe it or not, that sweet little angel may not be entirely truthful when they claim we allowed them to do something outrageous.
- We sometimes do their homework. Sorry, but they were too busy gaming to handle it themselves.
- They enjoyed chocolate for every meal. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner—you might want to prepare for a sugar rush when you get home!
- We wear permanent smiles. It’s our way of “faking it until we make it” when you drop the kids off.
- We love these kids unconditionally. Everything we do comes from a place of deep affection. One day you’ll understand this, and you too will be the grandparent who enjoys a bubble bath while sipping wine, with the car parked out of sight so you can escape for a moment.

Summary:
Being a grandparent comes with its own set of challenges and joys. While we cherish our grandchildren, we also value our independence and have our own opinions about parenting. Balancing love and discipline, we often find ourselves navigating the complexities of family dynamics with honesty and humor.
