A stunning photoshoot highlights the joy of eight expectant mothers, a unique outcome of Hurricane Matthew’s impact. When the storm hit the Lowcountry in October 2016, it left many residents stranded at home, providing a perfect backdrop for photographer Cassie Clayshulte to capture the beauty of motherhood.

Clayshulte shared the breathtaking images on her Facebook page, recalling, “Hurricane Matthew forced a mandatory evacuation, leading some to take shelter while significant damage occurred.” These remarkable women chose to stay put, turning a challenging circumstance into a celebration of life.

With limited activities available while stuck at home, these moms-to-be found creative ways to bond with their partners. Between candlelit evenings and forced home projects, the possibilities were endless—except for perhaps tackling the overflowing laundry. But let’s be honest, there were definitely some intimate moments shared.

Clayshulte sought out “hurricane moms” for the project and was thrilled with the response. “Scheduling the shoots was a little tricky, but it was worth it!” she told Home Insemination Kit. With a hint of humor, she likely reached out with something like, “Did you, um, conceive during the storm?” It turned out to be a question that sparked joy and connection among the women.

As the community began to recover from the storm’s destruction, it became evident that while property was lost, new life was being created. Clayshulte organized two special shoots to showcase these miraculous pregnancies.

Interestingly, while a few of the women knew each other prior to the sessions, many met for the first time. Clayshulte noted, “I created a support group for these moms, and now they continue to connect throughout their pregnancies!” With most expecting girls, this shoot may mark the beginning of lasting friendships for both the mothers and their future daughters.

Naturally, this raises the question: Will there be a follow-up shoot to welcome these hurricane babies into the world? “Absolutely!” Clayshulte responded enthusiastically. “I would LOVE to plan another shoot once they arrive!”

Let’s make this dream a reality, ladies.
