As we approach the end of the school year, we humbly come before you on behalf of all parents, seeking your guidance and strength.
Help us escape the chaos of forgotten lunch-packing and the utter lack of backpack inspections. During the long evenings when the sun lingers, yet our children must sleep because the bus shows no mercy every morning, grant us your patience.
As we navigate the whirlwind of May’s endless events, programs, and projects, remind us to see these moments for what they are: special occasions meant to enrich our children’s lives, not to drive us into madness.
Bestow upon us the fortitude to support our kids during baseball games, choir performances, awards nights, and soccer matches. Let them feel our love, even as we sneak in a quick game of Candy Crush on our phones. We may be exhausted, but our cheers are heartfelt.
Lord, keep us from resorting to stale Easter candy as the main course for lunch. Help us to at least elevate our offerings to prepackaged yogurt, applesauce, and the occasional treat from Little Debbie. Standards must be maintained, Lord!
When we feel overwhelmed by one more history project, math sheet, or book report, remind us of the teachers who will be grading these assignments. Encourage us to offer a prayer for their patience too.
Please grant mercy to our teachers when we request yet another permission slip for the end-of-year trip, having lost the first two. And when we accidentally forget pajama day or realize our kids are wearing pants that are too short due to our frantic rush to summer. And when they confess to late-night ice cream sessions and iPad marathons—let them know we are all in this together, struggling to maintain some semblance of order.
We ask that you help us locate the misplaced sports jerseys and overdue library books when we need them. Multiply our clean socks and underwear as you did the loaves and fishes. And let us collectively agree that frozen pizza and waffles for dinner multiple nights a week is a perfectly acceptable plan, even if it lacks variety.
Most importantly, dear Lord, help us survive May without losing our sanity, our children, or our will to continue. Because, quite frankly, all three are being put to the test right now.
Amen.
