My little one has just turned 12 months old, and with this milestone, he’s diving headfirst into solid foods (and honestly, it feels like he’s a bottomless pit). As he nurses less frequently, I find myself reflecting on the bittersweet end of our breastfeeding journey. While I cherish those moments of closeness, I also look forward to reclaiming parts of my life that I’ve had to put on hold. So, let’s raise a glass (or a coffee cup) to his weaning day with a few indulgences I’ve missed!
1. Sleep In
As much as I’d love to catch some extra Z’s, my body has its own alarm clock. When 6 a.m. rolls around, my body reminds me that it’s time to relieve the pressure. No more of those exhausting mornings where I juggle sleepy eyes and a hungry baby. I can’t wait to experience the luxury of uninterrupted sleep.
2. Rediscover Intimacy
In my previous post, I playfully discussed the joys of unprotected intimacy during the early months of breastfeeding. But let’s be real—my desire has taken a backseat due to exhaustion and hormonal changes. After my little one is weaned, I anticipate a revival in the romance department, reminiscent of a spring break adventure.
3. Say Goodbye to the Pump
Ah, the breast pump—a necessary evil. I have a tumultuous relationship with it, mostly leaning towards disdain. I plan to tuck it away in a dark corner of the attic, only to unearth it if I dare to consider another child—or maybe just pass it on to someone who needs it more.
4. Coffee and Cocktails On Demand
Finally, I can enjoy my caffeine fix and a refreshing margarita without worrying about when the baby needs to nurse. Cheers to spontaneous brunches and late-night happy hours!
5. New Lingerie
It’s high time for a lingerie overhaul. My post-breastfeeding body deserves some flattering, sexy bras. I’m ready to embrace my new shape and feel fabulous while doing so.
6. Uninterrupted Errands
Gone are the days of hurried trips with a baby in tow. I’ve nursed and pumped in some awkward places, but no more! I look forward to completing errands without the pressure of feeding schedules.
7. Medicinal Freedom
When breastfeeding, I’ve had to avoid medications unless absolutely necessary. But once weaning is complete, I’m excited to indulge in some much-needed relief from minor ailments like headaches with the help of modern medicine.
8. Nostalgia
Despite the challenges of breastfeeding—like fatigue and the struggle for intimacy—I will miss those special bonding moments with my baby. It’s a unique experience that I’ll always treasure.
