Why go for romantic when you can opt for hilarious? While many couples dream of stunning and ethereal engagement photos to commemorate their decision to spend life together, not everyone is after that vibe. Take, for example, this wonderfully amusing engagement shoot that’s sure to make you want to be best friends with the couple.
When Emma Jenkins and Lucas Brown approached photographer Mia Thompson from Evergreen Film Co. for their wedding and engagement photos, everything seemed to be heading in a traditional direction. Thompson recalls, “We met at a cozy café to get acquainted and address any questions they had before making a decision. Up until that point, it was all pretty standard.”
But then, the ordinary turned extraordinary. “During our discussion about the engagement session, they unveiled their concept. When they described a theme inspired by the movie ‘Masterminds,’ I felt an overwhelming rush of excitement—it was the perfect fit for an Awkward Family Photos-style shoot,” Thompson shares.
The results are nothing short of epic.
Forget the typical romantic engagement photos; this is what dreams are made of. Thompson, who typically specializes in more serious and cinematic photography, acknowledged that while many couples desire those classic, magazine-worthy images, having two young lovers who raided thrift stores for jorts and Skechers Shape-Ups was a refreshing change in the photography landscape.
“It was a day filled with laughter! We found humor even in the serious shots, but the real fun began when they pulled out their quirky outfits!” Thompson says. They did manage to capture some traditional engagement photos as well, which were stunning, but the awkward ones stole the show.
Thompson was truly impressed by the couple’s unique bond, stating, “The more I got to know them, the clearer it became how perfect they were for one another, Shape-Ups and all.” We can only hope their wedding day is filled with similarly “awkward” moments captured on camera.
