Stories from the Women Who Paved the Way: A Vote of Gratitude

As I step into the voting booth to cast my ballot for our nation’s first female president, I’ll carry with me the spirit of my great-grandmother, Eleanor. A widow who defied societal norms, Eleanor invested every last cent she had into her daughters’ education—one became a physician, while the other, my grandmother, a tireless advocate for social justice.

I’ll also bring along my grandmother, Margaret, who during the Great Depression, when sharing birth control information was taboo, discreetly connected women in need with the early version of Planned Parenthood. She was a true trailblazer, ensuring that women had access to the resources they desperately needed.

Here’s a snapshot of Grandma Margaret, ready to take on the world in her version of a pantsuit back in the day! And yes, I’ll be donning a pantsuit myself, adorned with Eleanor’s cherished locket and Margaret’s brooch. I stand on their shoulders, carrying their legacy forward.

In summary, as I prepare to vote, I reflect on the courageous women who came before me. Their strength and determination inspire me to make my voice heard, while I honor their legacies through my choices.
