11 Things I’m Grateful For This Thanksgiving

Every year, my family takes pride in hosting Thanksgiving dinner at our home. One cherished tradition we uphold is gathering everyone around the table to share what we’re thankful for before diving into our feast. It’s fascinating how, just moments before indulging in one of the biggest meals of the year, people’s minds gravitate toward food. Of course, we also express gratitude for our health, family, a warm home, freedom, and the opportunities we have in the United States. While those are all significant, here are 11 other things I genuinely appreciate…

  1. I’m grateful for kids who manage to sleep in until at least 8 a.m. Even more so, I cherish those moments when they wake up, shuffle to the family room, turn on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, pour a glass of chocolate milk, and don’t even think about checking on me until well after 9 a.m. Pure bliss!
  2. I’m thankful that our family skips the Turkey Trot or any 5k runs on Thanksgiving. I genuinely admire those who choose to get their exercise on a day dedicated to feasting, but I opted to stay on the couch instead.
  3. I have a deep appreciation for wine. Yes, the larger bottles, please!
  4. I’m grateful for family members who come over and engage in football, video games, Uno, or any form of entertainment that keeps the kids busy while I tackle the enormous Thanksgiving meal. Whether they’re teaching my kids to light a fire or launching rockets in the backyard, as long as they keep the little ones occupied while I wrestle a fifty-pound turkey, I’m all for it.
  5. I’m thankful for the rare occasions when my kids don’t fight throughout the holiday. (A small miracle!)
  6. On a similar note, I appreciate that the adults manage to keep the peace as well. (Another small miracle!)
  7. I’m incredibly thankful for any day I don’t need to squeeze into a bathing suit, especially when a feast is involved. Compared to Thanksgiving, the Fourth of July feels like a burden.
  8. Did I mention wine yet?
  9. I’m grateful for those amazing individuals who, as soon as the meal ends, spring into action to clear every plate, utensil, and glass from the table. When they work like a well-oiled machine in my kitchen, washing and putting everything away, my heart swells with gratitude. I could hug them all!
  10. I’m relieved that we don’t host any other holidays—Thanksgiving is more than enough!
  11. And let’s not forget the joy of leftovers—one of the best parts of the holiday!

In conclusion, Thanksgiving is not just about the food; it’s about the laughter, love, and the little moments that fill our hearts with gratitude.
