Hold onto your broomsticks, folks! Target has issued a recall on over 120,000 Halloween decorations that could pose a choking hazard. Before you deck out your home with all things spooky, make sure your festive decor isn’t part of this alarming recall involving hazardous LED button batteries—seriously, these shouldn’t even exist anymore!

Target is offering refunds for their Halloween-themed LED gel clings, which have been found to separate and expose the inner decal and LED/button battery compartment. This presents a choking risk and raises the specter of children accidentally swallowing the batteries. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, that’s a big yikes! Nobody wants little goblins getting into trouble with a battery. The clings come in six spooky styles: black bat, green skeleton, pink skeleton, purple spider, orange pumpkin, and black cat.

These decorations were designed for window displays, making them easily reachable for curious kiddos. It’s not hard to imagine a child being mesmerized by the blinking lights inside these gel clings. Unfortunately, they can come apart far too easily, leaving dangerous bits accessible to little hands.

Can we please just agree to say “no thanks” to these pesky LED button batteries already? They’re found in countless cheap toys and can lead to serious injuries, including getting lodged in the esophagus, where they can cause burns. The National Safety Council warns that these batteries can create an electric current in the body and release hydroxide, a chemical that can inflict severe tissue burns. Unfortunately, these gel clings aren’t the first to use such batteries, and they probably won’t be the last.

Target reports that approximately 127,000 of these clings were sold between August and October of this year, and at just $1 each, it’s no wonder they flew off the shelves. If you picked some up for your Halloween festivities, you can return them to any Target store for a full refund. To check if your decorations are affected, look for model number 234-25-0904 on the packaging.

While no injuries have been reported so far, Target initiated this voluntary recall to safeguard consumers. If you’re concerned or have questions, you can chat with a customer service rep at Target. They also share recall updates on their social media pages.

Just a heads up: gel clings similar to these are sold everywhere, so if you snagged a similar Halloween decoration from another store, it might be worth checking if they’ve been recalled too.
