When we hear that local law enforcement is on the lookout for a mountain lion in our neighborhood park, many of us would likely steer clear until we’re reasonably assured we won’t become the lion’s next meal. Yet, some adventurous souls might don a gorilla suit and trot right in after dark. Potato, potahto, right?
In Gardner, Kansas, the police department installed two cameras in Celebration Park after receiving multiple sightings of a mountain lion in the vicinity. Last week, they shared some of the curious images captured on their Facebook page, and the internet went wild. Comments flooded in from across the nation, with reactions like, “This is hilarious,” “So fun!” and “What the heck is going on in this park at night?”
Let’s take a closer look at the quirky snapshots shared by the police, in the order they were posted, shall we?
Curious Creatures of Celebration Park
First up, we’ve got a wolf-like creature. Not exactly the welcome sight I’d hope to encounter after dark, but not too alarming either.
Then, bam! Hello, something a bit more unsettling! Instead of a mountain lion, we’ve got what looks like a long-haired pig-man lurking around.
What’s this? A guy in a ghillie suit is apparently stalking… something! Maybe he’s tracking that elusive mountain lion.
Okay, now we’re teetering on the edge of “acceptable” and “old lady with a walker and a machete wandering the park at night.” At least she’s got her purse attached to the walker for some added security. And, of course, a machete. Because, why not?
Next up, we have what appears to be a festive yet tipsy Santa. Check!
Oh look, just a cute little skunk, blissfully sniffing around for snacks or whatever it is skunks do. Nothing unusual here.
But then, we have an unsettling image: a man in a gas mask holding a bag. Could he be collecting samples? I’m guessing he’s on the trail of that long-haired pig-man we saw earlier.
Raccoon sighting! Fun fact: at my old house, the raccoons used to treat my crawl space as their personal restroom. Good times!
And finally, what appears to be a pregnant werewolf. Yawn.
I must say, I’m not thrilled about the way this creature is staring at me.
And now, there are two of them! If I happened to be out in the park at 2 AM—whether due to insomnia or some other reason—and stumbled upon these two, I’d probably scream and run for my life.
As of today, the Gardner police have not provided any additional updates regarding these peculiar photos or the mountain lion. Stay quirky, Kansas!
