This holiday season, I’m skipping the pretense of wanting just quality family time. Here’s the real deal on my Christmas wish list:
1. Yoga Pants
I could really use a new pair of yoga pants. As soon as I step inside, I ditch my real pants and end up with holes in what remains because I’m always crawling around on the floor with my little ones.
2. A Quiet Car Ride
I’d love one car ride without the endless loop of the Frozen soundtrack blaring in the background.
3. A Perfect Family Photo
Just once, I want a family photo where everyone’s actually looking at the camera, nobody’s blinking, and I can print it out to display in our living room. I want proof that there was a moment when my kids had clean faces and matching outfits.
4. Fresh Earrings
I’d like a fresh set of earrings, even though the only opportunity to wear them is on date night since my baby loves to tug on them until my ears are sore.
5. A Spa Day
A spa day would be heavenly—I need to feel like a woman again, not just a mom who sports a bun, yoga pants, and remnants of baby food in my hair.
6. A New Comforter
I want a new white comforter for our bedroom, so at least one room in the house can exude some romance.
7. Gift Cards and Shopping
Gift cards to my favorite stores, along with a day of shopping without the kids, would be fabulous. Bonus points if I look amazing in every outfit I try on!
8. A Year’s Supply of Chocolate
How about a year’s supply of chocolate? And yes, I want it all to myself!
9. Planned Date Nights
I’d appreciate some planned and prepaid date nights so we actually go out instead of pushing it off last minute and ending up at Taco Bell with the kids.
10. A Massage Gift Card
A gift card for a massage would be a treat, especially since the last time I went, the masseuse suggested I should do it more often. That was before I had kids!
11. New Perfume
New perfume would be great too, to mask the usual scent of baby poop and spit-up.
12. A New Vacuum
A new vacuum would help me keep up with the mess my kids create all over the carpets and might even make cleaning a bit enjoyable.
13. A Thoughtful Gift
I’d love a thoughtful gift from my husband that shows he put some effort into it and reminds me of why I fell in love with him in the first place.
14. Maid Service
A maid service to tackle the mess in my house would be a dream—preferably while I’m not home to witness their shocked expressions at the hidden month-old food crumbs left by my toddler.
15. A Gym Membership
A gym membership would also be nice, so I don’t feel guilty indulging in that third cookie after the kids are asleep.
16. A Hassle-Free Date
And just once, I want a date where I don’t have to make the restaurant reservation or call to arrange for a babysitter.
If you manage to get me any of these items from my Christmas wish list, we can have a chat about kissing under the mistletoe!
