Celebrate! Those with Intolerance are Skipping Target During the Festive Season

As we embrace the season of gratitude, let’s not overlook the opportunity for some folks to display their less-than-tolerant sides, exemplified by the #AnywhereButTARGET campaign. Individuals still feeling aggrieved by the retailer’s earlier announcement that all customers and employees should use the restroom that aligns with their gender identity are opting to shop, you guessed it, anywhere but Target this holiday season.

And to that, we say: more parking spaces and fewer narrow-minded individuals in the aisles!

The #AnywhereButTARGET boycott is spearheaded by 2nd Vote, a conservative watchdog group that guides those with bigoted views on where to avoid spending their cash while simultaneously pointing compassionate shoppers toward where they can generously donate their dollars. After reading this, you might feel inspired to treat Target as your go-to destination this holiday season.

According to 2nd Vote:

“Frustrated by the liberal attack on common sense and decency in our communities? Tired of companies promoting a radical agenda that threatens our values and safety? This Christmas season, we’re making a statement against one of the leading corporate supporters of the liberal, LGBT agenda, and we need your help. We’re shopping #AnywhereButTARGET because conservatives shouldn’t fund Target’s harmful social agenda.”

Because nothing screams “decency” like trying to further marginalize an already vulnerable group. Pretty sure that’s what holiday cheer is all about, right?

And oh, the supposed danger! If you’ve been keeping up with the news, you’d think there’s been a wave of sexual assaults in Target restrooms since the policy was announced. Countless non-transgender men are allegedly taking advantage of this inclusive policy to sneak into women’s bathrooms for nefarious purposes. It’s an epidemic, right? THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

Except it’s not. In reality, there’s no evidence to support the notion that men are disguising themselves as women to harm others in Target bathrooms. In fact, statistics reveal that 75% of child sex abuse cases involve family members or acquaintances, not strangers in public restrooms. The idea that Target’s policy is leading to an increase in sexual predation is utterly baseless and absurd.

The site also rambles about the First Amendment and how radical it is to allow individuals to use facilities that align with their gender identity – as if rights should only apply to cisgender people in their skewed worldview.

This just means we can enjoy our holiday shopping without the negativity of those who cling to outdated ideas. While they trudge through less welcoming stores, we can happily stroll through Target, exchanging smiles with fellow open-minded shoppers as we generously support a retailer that champions treating all individuals with respect.

Happy Holidays, naysayers! See you on the other side, where I’ll be hauling home some fabulous throw pillows and stocking stuffers.
