Tales from the Pantsuit Nation: A Message for My Granddaughter

I stand with her because I see my granddaughter as a beacon of what’s to come. In her tiny frame lies the intertwined legacies of slave owner and enslaved, conqueror and conquered, right-wing and left-wing, Northerner and Southerner, believer and skeptic. All the animosity, anxiety, division, and greed from our past seem to have faded away, replaced by understanding, forgiveness, and courage. She exemplifies the beauty of openness, progress, and unity.

We face a pivotal choice: we can either retreat into division and ignore the truths she embodies, or we can embrace the wonderful potential for unity that she—and countless others in our wonderfully diverse nation—represent. If you’re interested in exploring more about this journey, check out one of our other posts on home insemination. Also, if you’re seeking more information on fertility, Make a Mom offers great resources. For those on the pregnancy path, the UCSF Center is an excellent place to start.

In summary, my granddaughter symbolizes hope and unity amidst a tumultuous past. It’s up to us to choose the path forward—one that honors our shared story and builds a brighter future for her and all like her.
