Back in February 1992, I discovered I was expecting while simultaneously resigning from my position as a budding attorney to serve as the Deputy State Director for Bill Clinton’s presidential primary campaign in Massachusetts. After Bill snagged the nomination, I stepped up as the Issues Director, all while my baby bump became increasingly prominent. Our daughter, Ella, made her grand entrance just two days before Bill’s monumental election in November 1992. I even managed to pump breastmilk through 36 hours of festivities in D.C. during the inauguration a few months later.
Fast forward to today, and Ella, now nearly 24, is thriving in Brooklyn on the digital advertising team for Hillary for America. Throughout her teenage years, we spent countless autumn afternoons in New Hampshire during election cycles, wielding signs and canvassing neighborhoods, engaging with voters about their hopes and concerns. Ella even took part in Obama’s 2012 campaign after her freshman year of college, and when she asked to lighten her course load to continue working at headquarters in Chicago, I hardly needed convincing. So, when Hillary Clinton announced her presidential bid, Ella was all in.

I vividly remember meeting Hillary back in 1992. She spoke from the steps of a supporter’s home in Brookline, Massachusetts, captivating the crowd of 40 to 50 people crammed into the hallway. Hillary passionately addressed the need to advocate for those without a voice, emphasizing the power of women making informed choices about their healthcare. I still recall her advocacy work for children with disabilities while at the Children’s Defense Fund. Hillary has dedicated her life to championing women and children. Almost 24 years later, I felt a strong pull to support Hillary’s campaign and have joyfully volunteered to organize trips for supporters heading to swing states.
This is why I’m thrilled that Ella is now part of Hillary’s team—one of the hardworking young staffers dedicating their time (seven days a week!) to amplify Hillary’s message of inclusivity for all Americans. Back in 1992, email was a shiny new toy. Today, Ella and her colleagues utilize advanced analytics to measure ad effectiveness. While technology has evolved in the past 24 years, Hillary Clinton’s unwavering commitment to justice and family welfare remains intact.

I couldn’t be prouder of Ella and my support for Hillary Clinton!
