Believe it or not, our right to vote is less than a century old—just over 50 years for Black women. Back in 1848, a courageous group of suffragettes, led by Anna Bell and her pals, gathered in a little town called Seneca Falls, New York. They boldly proclaimed, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all genders should be treated equally.” It took them more than fifty years of relentless struggle before women in some Western states could cast their ballots, and the 19th Amendment didn’t officially pass until 1920. Think about it—your great-grandmother may have been around during that monumental time. Use the voice your foremothers fought so valiantly for: Vote!!!
