One-Third of American Families Can’t Afford Diapers — Here’s How You Can Make a Difference

Imagine being unable to provide diapers for your little one. Shockingly, in the United States, one in three families is grappling with what’s known as “diaper need.” Yes, one in three.

“Diaper need” refers to the insufficiency of diapers to keep a child clean, dry, and healthy. Without diapers, kiddos can’t access early childhood education programs. And without those programs, parents find it difficult to work, since most childcare centers require a full day’s worth of diapers from parents. It’s a significant issue, but thankfully, we can all contribute to the solution.

Huggies has been tackling the diaper need crisis for years. Since becoming the founding sponsor of the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN) in 2010, they’ve donated over 200 million diapers and wipes. In recognition of Diaper Need Awareness Week, they’ve made it simple for us to lend a helping hand.

If you already use Huggies diapers, you might have the Huggies Rewards app — but if not, it’s free and easy to download! Once you’re in, head to “Redeem Points” and choose “Donate diapers to babies in need.” Those precious reward points can help families who need it the most.

Additionally, you can support from the comfort of your couch. This week, for every tweet you send using the hashtag #NoBabyUnhugged, Huggies will donate diapers to Baby2Baby, a member of the NDBN.

The National Diaper Need Network offers a treasure trove of resources to help you assist others. Just sharing this information can work wonders. Do you know any moms with kids who have outgrown their diapers? You can donate those extra diapers to a local diaper bank, even if the packaging is open — just ensure they’re still in their original packaging. Check out the National Diaper Bank Network site, find a diaper bank near you, and spread the word in your Facebook mom groups; many are unaware that donating opened packages is an option.

It’s a small act of kindness that can create a wave of hope. Your little contributions can accumulate, and it’s never been easier to make a difference. Huggies believes in the Power of Hugs, as this simple act is proven to enhance babies’ emotional and physical well-being. Inspired by a parent’s embrace, Huggies® diapers and wipes are designed to nurture, comfort, and protect your baby. Discover more at Huggies.com.
