“Wow, you clean up well!” How many times have moms like us heard that? After enduring one too many comments about our appearance, Laura Thompson, a fellow mom and comedian, decided it was time to speak up for all the women out there who don’t always look runway-ready.
Seriously, have you ever tallied up the mountain of tasks a mom tackles in a single day? Sure, we’d love to fit in a little glam time, but let’s be real—that’s about as likely as finding a unicorn.
“As a mom with a rambunctious four-year-old, I’m usually in cozy pajamas or gym gear (on the rare occasions I make it to the gym). Full makeup? Please! My nails are lucky if they see polish once a month. I’m over the unrealistic expectations society throws at us,” Thompson shared with Home Insemination Kit.
We hear you, sister!
And yes, there’s some colorful language here, so this isn’t exactly toddler-friendly.
“You clean up nice!”
Was I looking a hot mess? Was my outfit a complete flop? Maybe my makeup was off, or I was sporting sweatpants that hugged more than they should? No stilettos here to elongate my legs, so you might’ve thought I was preggers. Just take a look at my muffin top and the zits popping up on my forehead. Sometimes I throw my hair in a ponytail and skip the razor for my happy trail. I’ve got pit stains, even in the chill of winter, and my fanciest bra is older than my kid.
Forget it, I’m no beauty queen. All polished and primped? Nah. I wear perfume when I feel like it and couldn’t care less about the latest fashion trends.
But you know what? We clean up pretty darn well when we choose to!
