Belle introduces “Pinksourcing,” a fictional company that claims to help businesses access cost-effective labor. “Is your company aiming to boost productivity while trimming expenses? Why outsource to distant lands like India, China, or even Narnia when you can find the best and most affordable workforce right here in the good ol’ U.S. of A.?” she quips.
And who might that be? “Women.”
“That’s right! With Pinksourcing, women are a steal at 77 cents on the dollar.” Ouch. As we said, it’s a painful topic that we must laugh about to avoid tears.

According to the National Organization for Women, “By comparing differences in annual earnings, we find that women earn about 77 cents for every dollar a man makes, with women of color facing an even steeper climb.” While the gap has narrowed since the Equal Pay Act of 1963, when women earned only 59 cents on the dollar, progress has been painfully slow — increasing by less than half a penny annually since 2004.
