19 Reasons I’m Embracing the Teen Years

People often gush over newborns, dreaming of the days when they can cradle a tiny bundle of joy and breathe in that sweet baby scent. Don’t get me wrong; I was head over heels for my little ones from the moment they arrived. But, and this might raise a few eyebrows, I’m just not that into babies. As my kids have grown older, I’ve discovered that I enjoy their company more and more. While many long for those baby days, I’m thrilled to be right here with my two teens. Here’s why I’m loving this stage of parenthood:

  1. Their Sense of Humor
My teens have a knack for humor that keeps me laughing. From witty puns to sarcastic remarks, their comedic timing is spot on.
  2. No More Kids’ Shows
Gone are the days of enduring “Dora” or “Caillou.” I can finally enjoy some peace without endless reruns of cringe-worthy kids’ programs.
  3. They Love to Sleep
Teenagers can sleep in until noon sometimes, and that means I get to catch up on my own sleep. It’s a win-win!
  4. Independence in Dressing and Eating
They can pick out their clothes and prepare their meals. What a relief!
  5. Actually Helpful Chores
Unlike the toddler who once “helped” wash a car with a rock, my teens tackle chores like unloading the dishwasher and mowing the lawn. It’s genuinely helpful!
  6. No Diaper Bags
I no longer have to lug around a mountain of diapers, wipes, and snacks. Baby Jesus, thank you!
  7. Efficient Errands
A quick trip to the store is just that—quick! No more potty breaks or toddler tantrums over toys. Sometimes, we even split the shopping list and meet at the register.
  8. Bathroom Independence
I am beyond grateful that I no longer have to wipe anyone’s bottom—ever!
  9. They Handle Their Own Upset Stomachs
No more catching vomit in my hands! Recently, when my son felt ill at 2 a.m., he quietly managed it himself. What a champ!
  10. Packing Like Pros
My teens can pack their own bags for trips. And if they forget something? Well, that’s a lesson learned!
  11. Sarcasm Masters
They not only get sarcasm, they also use it fluently. It’s like we speak the same language now!
  12. Engaging Conversations
We dive into deep discussions about everything from the solar system to politics. Listening to their viewpoints is truly enlightening.
  13. Showers Without Supervision
I no longer need to supervise slippery kids in the shower. Thank goodness!
  14. More Sleep
Yes, I’m mentioning sleep again because it’s just that glorious!
  15. No More Last-Minute Diaper Explosions
I can’t even count how many times I had to deal with explosive diapers just as we were heading out the door. Those days are long gone!
  16. Less Disney Overload
While I enjoy a good Disney film, I no longer have to watch them on repeat. Hallelujah!
  17. Privacy in the Bathroom
I can finally enjoy a moment of peace without an audience while I’m in the bathroom.
  18. Fun Movie Outings
Going to the movies is a blast now! I’ve seen more films in the past year than I did when they were toddlers.
  19. Swearing Without Guilt
I’ve traded my child-friendly exclamations for some more colorful language. Let’s be real: “crud” just doesn’t cut it anymore!

At the end of the day, I think my dining room conversations deserve a reality show. Seriously, someone call me!
