Back-to-School Parenting Resolutions: A Fresh Start for Busy Moms

Kids absorb lessons from the world around them, reflecting what they see and hear. As a therapist, I’ve shared this insight with countless parents and educators. But as a mom juggling the demands of life, am I really practicing what I preach? I do my best—some days better than others.

With a full-time job as a pediatric occupational therapist, three energetic kids aged 6 to 8, a never-ending dinner prep, and a desire to squeeze in quality time with my husband and friends, I often feel like I’m juggling flaming torches. It’s enough to make anyone want to toss in the towel!

As we transition into the school year, I’ve decided it’s time for a reset. I’ve crafted a list of “Mommy Resolutions” that I’m committing to now—not waiting for New Year’s or any particular holiday. I’m sharing them here for all the parents, caregivers, and educators out there. If you have someone special in your life, these resolutions may resonate with you too. I’ll be posting this list on my fridge as a daily reminder to stay true to my word.

To my kiddos, I vow:

  1. Our dedicated time together will be gadget-free—no scrolling through social media or answering texts. Just good old-fashioned playtime.
  2. After a hectic day, I’ll take a deep breath to shake off the stress and greet you with a smile. You’ve had a long day, too!
  3. Whether we’re at the park or in the backyard, I’ll be a willing partner on the slide or swing, whenever you want me to join.
  4. I’ll do my best not to say I’m too busy. You can always count on me to be there when you need me.
  5. Let’s aim for a weekly dance party—because who doesn’t love a little boogie?
  6. Even though I work during the day, I’ll strive to attend your plays, graduations, and parties because you’re my number one priority.
  7. When I mess up, I’ll look you in the eyes and say, “I’m sorry,” and I’ll show you through my actions that I mean it.
  8. I’ll express my love for you each day and share the many reasons why you’re so special to me.
  9. I’ll remind myself to cherish every smile, laugh, and yes, even those pesky tantrums. You’re growing up way too fast!
  10. I promise to help each of you start and end your days feeling special, cherished, and loved beyond measure.

As I embark on this journey, I’ll also be exploring more resources on home insemination and parenting, like those found at this article on home insemination, and checking out this great resource for pregnancy to make sure I’m well-prepared for any challenges we might face. You can also find expert advice at this site on home insemination kits.

In summary, as we gear up for the school year, let’s make a commitment to be present, engaged, and loving parents. Here’s to a fresh start and creating beautiful memories with our children!
